Understanding Where We Are

Proverbs 29:18 KJV - Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

This verse actually reads "Where there is not any "Prophetic Vision . . ." To see "prophetically," one must see through the eyes of the Spirit. When you begin to see through the eyes of the Spirit, you begin to see shapes and forms which are "not of this world."

Romans 12:2 NKJV - And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. The time has come for those who are spiritual to exercise their "spiritual eyesight." God's word tells us there are those who are "spiritual." They have much given to them to do.

Galatians 6:1 & 9 NKJV

1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Luke 12:47-48 NIV

47 "That servant who knows his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows.

48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.

Be well aware we are involved in a war. This is the "war between the worlds." Territory has already been staked out and claimed. Just as in the physical realm where men searched out land and claimed it, so it is in the spiritual. The forces of the enemy have but one mission . . . John 10:10 NKJV - "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

I. WE ARE INVOLVED IN A BATTLE

Ephesians 6:12 NIV - For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

A. The Spiritual Forces of Evil are against us.

Example #1 - Time and time again we hear of terrible abnormal events taking place relating to murder, rape, violence and like crimes. Our words are, "What ever possessed them to do that?" That is the truth . . . something possessed them which was not of the Lord.

Example #2 - Often we have used the phrase, "It is as if the Heavens are brass. My prayers don't seem to go even through the roof." Why? Because the enemy has created a spiritual disturbance. A wall of evil has been formed and causes you to struggle in your efforts.

Example #3 - When you kneel to pray seriously, the phone rings or a neighbor happens to drop by.

Example #4 - Why are their times in worship services when the Spirit of the Lord is very present and a child begins to holler and scream? Why, just when you are the very verge of a spiritual breakthrough do children run in and come down the aisles?

You may think these are only coincidences. However, I am here to tell you the forces of the enemy are raging. This is not happenstance or coincidence. This is the rage of the enemy.

I want to encourage this body to read two very enlightening books. They are fiction, however they deal with issues which are necessary for everyone involved in spiritual warfare to understand. 1) This Present Darkness and 2) Piercing The Darkness - by Frank Peretti.

B. The Spiritual Forces of God are with us.

Hebrews 13:5 NKJV - For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

Psalm 23:4 NKJV - Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

John 14:18 KJV - I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

II. TO FIGHT THE BATTLE WE MUST UNDERSTAND SPIRITUAL WARFARE

There are FOUR KEY DIMENSIONS TO SPIRITUAL WARFARE. Those dimensions are: 1) Our Weapons of Warfare, 2) Our Spiritual Authority, 3) Our Engagement with the Enemy, and 4) Our Plan of Action

A. Our Weapons of Warfare - One of the most difficult lessons for the average Christian to learn is that our weapons for spiritual warfare are spiritual weapons.

Ephesians 6:11-18 NKJV

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints;

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 KJV

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

The central, foundational activity for spiritual warfare is prayer. In one sense prayer is a weapon of warfare, and in another sense it is the medium through which all of the other weapons are utilized.

III. OUR WEAPONS OF WARFARE

Weapon #1 - The Name of Jesus

Mark 16:17 NKJV

17 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

John 14:14 NKJV - "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

John 16:23-24 NKJV

23 "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.

24 "Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Philippians 2:9-11 NIV

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Weapon #2 - The Blood of Jesus

1 John 1:7 NKJV - But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Revelation 12:10-11 NIV

10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: "Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.

11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Colossians 2:14-15 NIV

14 having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross.

15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Weapon #3 - Agreement - in one accord in prayer

Acts 2:1 KJV - And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Acts 1:14 KJV - These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Weapon #4 - Fasting

Matthew 17:21 - "However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."

Acts 13:2-3 NKJV

2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.

Weapon #5 - Praise

Psalm 145:2 NKJV - Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever.

Acts 16:25-26 NKJV

25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were loosed.

Weapon #6 - The Word of God

Ephesians 6:17-18

17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit.

There is still much to consider with this message. Here are a few things we are going to look at in the coming days:

Our Spiritual Authority

Our Engagement with the Enemy

Our Plan of Action
